Bank Of England Visual IdentityBank Of England Visual IdentityBank of England Visual Identity is a comprehensive visual communication system designed by Matteo Ruisi and Peter McCabe, representing a significant evolution in financial institution branding that prioritizes accessibility, relevance, structure, and distinctiveness. This sophisticated design system, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, masterfully balances technical information with public-facing communications through thoughtful implementation of design elements. The identity system features a dyslexia-friendly typeface and an inclusive reimagining of the traditional Britannia seal, complemented by a color palette inspired by currency notes. The design team approached the project with particular attention to accessibility, consulting with specialized charities throughout the development process to ensure optimal readability and inclusivity. Developed during the pandemic in 2020 and launched in March 2022, the project involved extensive collaboration with internal stakeholders and resulted in the creation of a comprehensive online brand portal. The system includes innovative solutions for chart design, addressing the challenge of presenting complex financial data in an accessible format, while maintaining consistency across thousands of annual publications. The implementation of new CSS standards and specialized templates further enhanced the identity's technical functionality. This visual identity system demonstrates exceptional achievement in balancing institutional gravitas with contemporary accessibility requirements, earning recognition through the prestigious A' Design Award for its innovative approach to financial communication design.
