House Of Solace Studio ApartmentHouse Of Solace Studio ApartmentHouse of Solace Studio Apartment is an exemplary 490-square-foot residential interior design project located in a historic Art Deco building from the British colonial era in Mumbai, India. This innovative transformation converts a traditional one-bedroom apartment into a sophisticated studio living space, masterfully balancing functionality with aesthetic refinement. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space category, showcases a harmonious fusion of timeless French aesthetics and contemporary sensibilities. The space features an ingenious open-plan layout where the wall between the living room and kitchen was removed to create a more expansive atmosphere, maximizing the generous 10-foot ceiling height characteristic of colonial architecture. The interior's material palette incorporates teak wood, polyurethane finishes, concrete, terrazzo, and metal elements, while the flooring utilizes wooden-look tiles arranged in a distinctive herringbone pattern that extends up the main living room wall. The color scheme artfully combines white, black, and greys, accented with electric blue and yellow touches that create a sophisticated urban ambiance. Notable design elements include a custom-designed kitchen island with raw plywood edge detailing, a black-framed glass partition leading to the bedroom, and a specially commissioned artwork that ties the color scheme together. The space incorporates thoughtful solutions for remote work capabilities, including a generously sized desk near a window detailed in black to enhance the perception of height. The design successfully addresses the challenges of compact living through intelligent storage solutions, natural light optimization, and careful attention to maintaining the property's historical character while introducing modern functionality.
