K Farm Urban DesignK Farm Urban DesignK Farm Urban Design is an innovative urban farming project that transforms a former industrial site into a multifunctional agricultural space along Victoria Harbour, exemplifying sustainable urban development and community engagement. This groundbreaking design, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, incorporates three distinct farming methodologies: hydroponics for weather-resistant cultivation, aquaponics for studying fish-plant symbiosis, and organic farming with varying heights to ensure inclusive accessibility. The 2,000-square-meter development features circular geometries symbolizing unity and maritime elements, seamlessly integrating with the Belcher Bay Area through reflective pools, lawns, and three rain shelters. The project's innovative approach to sustainability is evident in its locally-sourced materials, modular construction allowing for future relocation, and smart technology integration including solar panels and automated water systems. The hydroponics system achieves triple the yield of traditional farming methods while maintaining a lower carbon footprint than imported produce. The design emphasizes accessibility through vertical green walls, farming racks, and adjustable-height cultivation tables, making agriculture accessible to people with diverse physical abilities. The project, completed in 2021, serves as an educational platform and community hub, offering classes, workshops, and a green kitchen, while demonstrating how urban farming can thrive in extreme coastal conditions and serve as a template for similar initiatives across Asia.
