Vintage Remix Apartment InteriorVintage Remix Apartment InteriorVintage Remix Apartment Interior is an innovative residential design project that exemplifies the sophisticated integration of vintage furniture with contemporary architectural elements, created by architect Julian Piperov and Alexandra Doleva. This 130-square-meter apartment interior, completed in 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria, masterfully demonstrates the principles of adaptive reuse and contemporary design fusion. The project's cornerstone lies in its deliberate juxtaposition of two vintage French cabinets with custom-designed sculptural steel pieces, creating a compelling visual dialogue between historical craftsmanship and modern industrial aesthetics. The design's focal point, the Harmonica Bar and Overhang, serves both as a functional screen and a bar installation, becoming an integral element of the kitchen and entry zone. This innovative structure, fabricated from 3mm laser-cut steel plate, features a sophisticated graphite silhouette that reflects elegantly in the mirrored backing of the tall glazed cabinet. The complementary Harmonica Shelving Unit, constructed with cantilevered MDF shelves finished in stained oak veneer, demonstrates exceptional engineering through its gravity-based interlocking system. The project's success in harmonizing contrasting elements - the warm, aged wood featuring intricate intarsia work against the industrial character of dark steel structures - earned it recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its contribution to contemporary residential design innovation. The interior's thoughtful circulation patterns and spatial organization create a fluid living environment that seamlessly integrates functional requirements with aesthetic excellence, while addressing modern sustainability concerns through its emphasis on furniture upcycling and material reuse.
