Calm Black ResidenceCalm Black ResidenceCalm Black Residence is an exemplary modern residential project located in Taoyuan, Taiwan, showcasing a sophisticated interpretation of contemporary metropolitan living within a compact 99-square-meter, four-story dwelling. Designed by Yuan Qi Lu, this architectural masterpiece demonstrates exceptional spatial optimization through its thoughtful integration of black, grey, and white tones, creating a harmonious aesthetic that transforms the living space into a gallery-like environment. The design's distinctive features include the innovative use of diverse materials such as concrete, iron, titanium plating metal, marble, and natural cultured stone, which are strategically employed to define different functional zones while maintaining spatial continuity. The residence incorporates several architectural innovations, including an elevated study floor with a meticulously crafted quartz stone parapet, a semi-open kitchen connected to the living areas via a bar counter design, and sophisticated beam treatments utilizing arc ceiling outlines and arch modeling. The public spaces are particularly noteworthy for their dual functionality as both living areas and exhibition spaces, featuring custom-designed elements such as a marble TV wall with integrated storage and an illuminated iron shelf system. The project, which won the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies excellence in modern residential design through its successful resolution of spatial challenges, innovative material applications, and thoughtful consideration of multi-generational living requirements. The design's ability to create distinct functional areas while maintaining visual continuity, combined with its sophisticated material palette and attention to detail, establishes a new standard for contemporary urban residential architecture.
