The Flett Roof Flashing

The Flett Roof Flashing

The Flett Roof Flashing is a groundbreaking architectural innovation that represents the world's first 3D-printed roof flashing solution, designed to revolutionize the roofing and architectural cladding industry. This pioneering design, created by architect Scott Flett, addresses the longstanding challenges associated with traditional metal roofing installations, particularly at complex junctions where roofing sheets meet at different pitches. The system employs advanced additive manufacturing technology to produce custom-fitted flashings that perfectly match specified roofing profiles and colors, utilizing 2mm thick ASA plastic material that ensures thermal stability, UV resistance, and non-toxic properties. The innovative design features a sophisticated underlapping and overlapping mechanism that accommodates the sectional profile of standing seam cladding sheets, enabling seamless directional changes while maintaining aesthetic consistency. Measuring 265mm x 50mm x 100mm, this patented solution significantly simplifies the installation process, transforming what traditionally required decades of specialist experience into a task achievable by general construction professionals. The design, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award Competition in the 3D Printed Forms and Products Design category, represents a significant advancement in construction methodology, offering improved efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and accessibility while addressing critical issues of roof leakage and installation complexity. The development process spanned over four years, involving more than 1000 days of iterative improvements, resulting in a product that not only enhances architectural design possibilities but also responds effectively to diverse environmental challenges and installation requirements.
