First Photographs Of Hong Kong Old Photo ExhibitionFirst Photographs Of Hong Kong Old Photo ExhibitionFirst Photographs of Hong Kong Old photo exhibition is a meticulously curated historical photography exhibition designed by Lam Wai Ming, which earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. The exhibition, housed in the 147-year-old Former Central Police Station Compound, a declared monument in Hong Kong's Central District, masterfully integrates architectural heritage with photographic history. The innovative design concept centers around a compelling interplay between colonial architecture and photography, featuring a distinctive giant white camera model at the entrance that creates an engaging visual dialogue between historical and contemporary perspectives of Hong Kong. The exhibition's focal point showcases Hong Kong's earliest known photograph from 1858, displayed within an indoor rotunda, while additional historical photographs are presented on house-shaped display stands that pay homage to Victorian colonial architecture. The exhibition space is thoughtfully organized with a series of flashlight indicator models guiding visitors through the experience, allowing them to discover the rich photographic heritage of Hong Kong while respecting the strict preservation requirements of the historical venue. Despite challenges including budgetary constraints and rigorous conservation restrictions that prohibited any permanent modifications to the structure, the design successfully creates an immersive environment that celebrates both Hong Kong's architectural and photographic legacy, particularly focusing on the period when the Central District was known as Victoria City under British governance.
