Kwong Shook Ling Residence, Hong Kong Residential FlatKwong Shook Ling Residence, Hong Kong Residential FlatKwong Shook Ling Residence, Hong Kong Residential Flat is an innovative residential interior design project that masterfully synthesizes contemporary Western and traditional Chinese architectural elements to create a harmonious living space. Located in the Jardine's Lookout Area on Hong Kong Island, this 220-square-meter apartment exemplifies a sophisticated approach to modern urban living through its thoughtful integration of cultural influences and advanced manufacturing techniques. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space Design, features a distinctive curvaceous ceiling and sinuous cabinetry in the living room, contrasted with angular storage vitrines in the dining area. The space employs natural materials throughout, including lime-washed oak flooring and naturally stained wood paneling, while incorporating low VOC materials to ensure optimal indoor air quality. The project's innovative production methodology combined traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge CNC technology, where components such as the ceiling, wooden screen, and bespoke cabinetry were manufactured off-site using digital files. The residence's flexible layout, achieved by eliminating one bedroom and incorporating moveable partitions, creates an adaptable living environment that can evolve with the occupant's needs. The design's centerpiece is a round dining table, traditionally significant in Chinese culture, which influences the radiating ceiling pattern and serves as the spatial heart of the home. The project's lighting design creates dramatic atmospheric effects, with hidden illumination sources that blur spatial boundaries, making the flat appear soft and atmospheric during daylight hours while maintaining a dramatic presence at night.
