Acutor Pencil SharpenerAcutor Pencil SharpenerAcutor Pencil sharpener is an innovative and aesthetically refined manual pencil sharpening device that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of functionality and artistic expression in everyday objects. Designed by Jaeryong Lee from the Republic of Korea, this distinctive creation challenges conventional approaches to pencil sharpener design by deliberately exposing the byproduct of pencil sharpening rather than concealing it. The device features a striking triangular flask configuration that serves as both a functional container for pencil shavings and an artistic display element, measuring 90mm in width, 90mm in depth, and 125mm in height. Its operational mechanism involves a cork component with an integrated hidden blade, through which the pencil is inserted from above for manual sharpening. The design philosophy centers on the concept that natural processes need not be hidden, transforming what is typically considered waste into a visually engaging element of the product's aesthetic appeal. This approach represents a significant departure from traditional pencil sharpener designs that typically conceal shavings within opaque compartments. The Acutor's innovative design earned recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to the field of art supply design. The product's development, which took place between March and October 2011 in Korea, resulted in a design that not only serves its primary function but also maintains its visual appeal even when not in use, effectively elevating a mundane office tool into an object of contemplative beauty that celebrates the natural processes of its function.
