Pacific Palisades Residence Single Family ResidencePacific Palisades Residence Single Family ResidencePacific Palisades Residence Single Family Residence is an exemplary architectural achievement that harmoniously integrates built form with natural landscape, situated on a coastal bluff overlooking a natural canyon and the Pacific Ocean. This 17,000-square-foot residential complex, honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to environmental integration and sustainable design principles. The residence occupies a 2-acre site, comprising a 14,500-square-foot primary residence and a 2,500-square-foot accessory building, masterfully addressing the challenges of severe topography while preserving the natural beauty of its virgin site bordered by State park land. The design's sophisticated approach is characterized by two principal open terraces - one semi-public and one private - organized along three primary axes that respond to ocean views, property constraints, and natural topography. The structure employs a limited yet refined palette of sustainable materials, including split face and honed stacked limestone, ipe wood slats, and high-performance glazing, demonstrating a commitment to material efficiency and environmental responsibility. Notable features include a 6-car garage seamlessly integrated into the hillside, a 1,700-square-foot upper exterior courtyard, and thoughtful preservation of over 70% of the site as planted terrain, incorporating more than 200 new trees and drought-tolerant plantings. The design exemplifies innovative environmental strategies, including optimal natural lighting, passive ventilation, and various shading techniques, while the building's subterranean portions provide natural thermal benefits, culminating in a residence that achieves both architectural excellence and ecological harmony.
