Donut Folding BicycleDonut Folding BicycleDonut Folding Bicycle is an innovative transportation design concept that revolutionizes urban mobility through its unique circular folding mechanism. This ingenious bicycle design, created by Indian designer Arvind Mahabaleshwara, features a distinctive aluminum alloy circular frame that serves both structural and functional purposes. When folded, the bicycle transforms into a perfect circle with a diameter of 26 inches and a width of 6 inches, with no components protruding beyond the frame's circumference, making it exceptionally practical for storage and transport in crowded urban environments. The design incorporates sophisticated engineering elements, including pivoted front and rear forks attached to the circular frame, and a novel tubular pedal system that both slides and rotates within the crank bar. The drive mechanism employs a combination of chain and gear drives to transfer motion to the rear wheel, while maintaining the bicycle's compact folding capability. Notable features include a height-adjustable seat and handlebar system integrated with modern technology such as GPS navigation and a cyclometer for tracking riding metrics. The bicycle, which utilizes 16-inch wheels, represents a significant advancement in sustainable urban transportation solutions, addressing contemporary challenges of traffic congestion and environmental pollution. The design's exceptional innovation and practical utility were recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design category, acknowledging its contribution to sustainable mobility solutions and its potential impact on urban transportation. The project, developed between November 2011 and April 2012 in Bangalore, India, demonstrates a harmonious blend of functional engineering and aesthetic design principles.
