The Liquid Space ResidenceThe Liquid Space ResidenceThe Liquid Space Residence is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of natural elements with architectural space, completed in Shanghai in 2011. This distinguished design, conceived by Kris Lin, draws its primary inspiration from the fluid, dynamic properties of water, translating liquid forms into architectural elements throughout the 2,800-square-foot dwelling. The design's most remarkable feature is its seamless integration of flowing forms that traverse multiple levels, where carefully crafted oak surfaces extend from the ground floor upward through walls and ceilings, continuing via the stairwell to encompass the second floor's surfaces in a continuous, liquid-like movement. The material palette, comprising oak dyeing ash, white pearl paint, volakas marble, and carbon-colored stainless steel, creates a sophisticated interplay of textures and finishes that enhance the liquid aesthetic. The project's innovative approach to spatial design earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its exceptional achievement in transforming traditional residential architecture into a fluid, dynamic living environment. Arc-formed furniture pieces and lighting fixtures were specifically designed to complement the overall theme, creating a cohesive design language throughout the space. This groundbreaking project demonstrates how abstract natural concepts can be successfully translated into tangible architectural elements, setting new standards for residential interior design through its innovative interpretation of liquid movement in spatial design.
