CURVE Residence

CURVE Residence

CURVE Residence is an innovative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies the sophisticated integration of curved elements in residential spaces. Located in Shanghai, China, this 3,500-square-foot residence, completed in 2011, showcases a masterful exploration of curvilinear forms throughout its design composition. The project, conceived and executed by design director Kris Lin, employs a minimalist material palette primarily centered on white tones to emphasize its distinctive curved elements. The interior's most notable feature is a striking U-shaped configuration in the dining hall, where the seating arrangement and backrest create both form and spatial definition. The design's sophisticated circulation is highlighted by a sculptural staircase that winds elegantly from the third floor to the first, featuring a seamlessly curved handrail that exemplifies the project's commitment to fluid forms. The material selection, including volakas and white pearl paint accented with carbon-colored stainless steel, creates a refined aesthetic that enhances the curved architectural elements. The project's excellence in interior space design was recognized with a Platinum A' Design Award in the Interior Space and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to spatial organization and aesthetic achievement. The design successfully demonstrates how curved elements can be used to create dynamic, three-dimensional effects through the strategic implementation of arc walls, ceiling lighting belts, and sculptural architectural elements, resulting in a harmonious living environment that balances form with function.
