Our Lady Of The Rosary Church - Hrajel ChurchOur Lady Of The Rosary Church - Hrajel ChurchOur Lady of the Rosary Church - Hrajel Church is a significant architectural masterpiece located in the mountainous village of Hrajel, Lebanon, embodying a harmonious fusion of traditional Maronite religious architecture and contemporary design principles. Situated at an altitude of 1800 meters, this Bronze A' Design Award-winning religious edifice represents a powerful sculptural manifestation of spiritual ascent and resurrection within its rocky mountainous setting. The church's distinctive design features a sloping façade that doubles as the roof, incorporating triangular geometry to symbolize the Holy Trinity, while its rectangular interior accommodates 672 seated worshippers. The structure's dimensions of 21.5 x 64 meters create an austere yet grandiose space that facilitates contemplation and prayer. A defining architectural element is the slim vertical light slot at the altar, creating a dramatic linear penetration of light symbolizing the connection between divine and human realms, complemented by two large semicircular stained glass screens that provide natural ventilation and diffused illumination. The church demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness through its use of recycled natural stone extracted from the site, serving both aesthetic and practical purposes by harmonizing with the rural character while providing natural temperature regulation. The building's placement creates a meaningful geographic axis with the existing 18th-century Our Lady of the Rosary Church and the Byzantine church Saydet Al Darji, establishing a profound spatial and spiritual interconnectedness that reflects the rich religious heritage of the region.
