Turn Arm-chair.Turn Arm-chair.Turn Arm-chair is an innovative and versatile piece of furniture design that exemplifies the fusion of form and functionality in contemporary seating solutions. Designed by Italian designer Giuseppe Fais, this multifunctional armchair features a sophisticated supporting frame with integrated storage containers, demonstrating a remarkable synthesis of mechanical engineering and ergonomic design. Drawing inspiration from the 1922 Lancia Lambda car chassis, the chair's construction employs die-cast aluminum for its side profiles, crossbars, and transversal support, complemented by printed polypropylene bodyshells connected through a snap-fit joint system. The design's distinctive characteristic lies in its dual functionality - it serves both as a conventional armchair and transforms into a rocking chair when inverted, offering users multiple seating positions and experiences. The chair's dimensions (width 650mm, depth 1300mm, height 1080mm with opened backrest) are carefully calculated to ensure optimal comfort, while its storage compartments accommodate various personal items from magazines to electronic devices. The design emphasizes sustainability through its design-for-disassembly approach and minimal material usage, featuring removable cotton pillows with Velcro fastening and CFC-free polyurethane upholstery. This innovative furniture piece, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, represents a significant advancement in furniture design, creating what the designer terms a microcosm for the benefit of man. The project, completed between October 2012 and February 2013 in Sardinia, demonstrates exceptional attention to resource optimization and user interaction, making it a notable contribution to contemporary furniture design.
