Snowball Computer MouseSnowball Computer MouseSnowball Computer Mouse is an innovative digital input device that revolutionizes conventional mouse interaction through its unique reversed operational mechanism. Designed by Hakan Orel, this ergonomic peripheral device features a distinctive spherical form factor with a diameter of 69 millimeters and weighs 250 grams, powered by a single AAA battery. The device's groundbreaking design incorporates dual optical tracking sensors operating in perpendicular planes, enabling enhanced functionality and precise control in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. The commanding unit, which transmits left and right button signals, is ingeniously attached to the casing using magnetic connections, while the main body features a steel wireframe insert-molded construction that provides both structural integrity and magnetic properties. The waterproof and durable casing is secured with an O-ring seal and consists of male and female halves joined by screws. Unlike traditional computer mice where the device remains stationary, the Snowball operates through a rolling motion where the interior system remains fixed while the outer casing moves, effectively inverting the conventional mouse-pad relationship. Navigation is achieved by rolling the device in the desired direction, while rotational movements enable vertical scrolling functionality. The design's modular nature allows for customization through interchangeable color options for both the case and commanding unit, making it adaptable to various user preferences. This innovative approach to computer interaction earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, receiving an Iron A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing user interface design and ergonomic innovation.
