Chromosome X Dining TableChromosome X Dining TableChromosome X Dining Table is an innovative furniture design piece created by Greek designer Helen Brasinika, distinguished by its unique interpretation of genetic symbolism in functional furniture. This sculptural dining table, winner of the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, features an abstract X-shaped top composed of two distinct pieces emphasized by a deep line, with the X motif reflected in its base structure. The design draws profound inspiration from the X chromosome's role in determining female gender, incorporating this biological significance into a sophisticated piece of furniture that accommodates eight to twelve people in an unconventional arrow-shaped seating arrangement. The table's construction showcases a thoughtful material contrast between teak veneer top and white lacquered wood base (RAL 9016), with the lighter base intentionally designed to emphasize the irregularly shaped top. Measuring 3200mm in length, 100mm in depth, and 750mm in height, the table's structure is engineered for both stability and practicality, featuring a three-piece base design that facilitates easy assembly and transportation. The top surface receives a natural beeswax treatment, demonstrating an environmentally conscious approach by avoiding chemical varnishes and VOC-emitting substances. This 2013 award-winning design represents a significant innovation in dining furniture, challenging traditional rectangular table formats while promoting unique social interactions through its V-arrow seating configuration, effectively combining artistic expression with functional design principles.
