VOLCANO Sitting Furniture

VOLCANO Sitting furniture is an innovative seating solution inspired by the dynamic natural phenomenon of volcanic eruptions, designed by Israeli designer Keren Shiker. This distinctive furniture piece features a circular plywood base with a diameter of 60 centimeters, covered in Formica and punctuated by 24 strategically placed holes, each measuring 5.5 centimeters in diameter. Through these apertures, soft fabric tubes filled with styrofoam, each extending to 2 meters in length, emerge to create a unique and adaptable seating experience. The design philosophy draws parallel between the fluid movement of volcanic lava and the malleable nature of the tubes, which conform to users' bodies during interaction. This versatile piece accommodates various sitting and reclining positions, making it suitable for both solitary use and social gatherings. The furniture's distinctive aesthetic and functional characteristics stem from its ability to be reconfigured into different arrangements, while the washable fabric tubes ensure practical maintenance.
