Sketchy TableSketchy TableSketchy Table is an innovative dual-purpose furniture design created by Greek designer Xenofon Hector Grigorelis that seamlessly combines the functionality of a dining table with a professional sketching board. This versatile piece, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, exemplifies a thoughtful fusion of practicality and aesthetic appeal inspired by 1970s design sensibilities. The table features a sophisticated top surface measuring 2500 x 900mm with elegant curved edges, constructed from a combination of wood and MDF panel with a glossy lacquer finish, supported by inclined walnut wood legs with dimensions of 62 x 38mm, reaching a height of 770mm. The design incorporates a specialized lift mechanism utilizing tracks that enable the table surface to be adjusted to various gradients, transforming it into a professional sketching board reminiscent of traditional Renaissance cavallettos. The engineering challenge of maintaining stability with inclined legs was resolved through extensive research into wood properties and traditional joining techniques, resulting in a structure that maintains steadiness despite its dynamic form. The table's distinctive features include its minimalist aesthetic, which conceals its transformative capabilities, and the harmonious integration of different materials that pays homage to mid-century design while serving contemporary needs for multipurpose furniture solutions. This conceptual design, developed in 2014, demonstrates innovative approaches to furniture design by addressing the modern need for space-efficient, multifunctional pieces suitable for both dining and creative work environments.
