Interelationships Residential ComplexInterelationships Residential ComplexInterelationships Residential Complex is an innovative sustainable collective housing development designed to accommodate and support vulnerable groups within an integrated community setting, exemplifying the successful fusion of universal design principles with contemporary architectural aesthetics. This pilot project, conceived by architect Constantinos Yanniotis, represents a groundbreaking approach to supported living that prioritizes social integration through thoughtfully designed spaces and revenue-generating activities. The complex comprises two residential unit blocks and a distinctive stairwell exhibition block, featuring multiple public spaces including a central courtyard with a swimming pool, indoor café, creative workshops, and exhibition areas that incorporate preserved ancient masonry relics. The architectural design employs a sophisticated combination of materials, including polycarbonate sheet siding, patinated copper panels, and bare concrete, while incorporating extensive sustainable technologies such as photovoltaic panels, roof wind turbines, and geothermal systems to achieve zero-energy operation. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, addresses significant architectural challenges including a 3-6 meter height difference between bounding roads and the integration of historical neoclassical building remains. Universal design principles are comprehensively implemented throughout the complex via elevators, stair lifts, and ramps, ensuring complete accessibility while maintaining aesthetic excellence. The development's innovative features extend to its environmental considerations, incorporating planted roofs, water management systems, and waste recycling facilities, while its social impact is enhanced through multiple spaces for community interaction, cultural events, and employment opportunities for residents.
