Poet Studio OfficePoet Studio OfficePoet Studio Office is an award-winning architectural renovation project that exemplifies thoughtful adaptive reuse of historical structures, transforming a traditional Minnan-style Fanzi building into a contemporary studio workspace. Located in Shishi City, Fujian Province, China, this 66-square-meter interior space masterfully preserves the building's original exterior walls while introducing modern elements that respect and enhance its historical character. Designed by Zhiyong Bai and interior designer Shanni Qiu, the project embraces a philosophy of compliance and improvisation, seeking to maintain dialogue between old and new elements. The design employs a minimalist material palette, primarily featuring clear water concrete and reclaimed wooden boards, complemented by white-painted walls and simple glass fenestration. The studio's spatial planning demonstrates exceptional efficiency, accommodating multiple functions within its compact footprint while maintaining a seamless flow of movement and natural light. The project, completed in 2019, represents a significant achievement in contemporary adaptive reuse, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for its innovative approach to space utilization and preservation of architectural heritage. The design's success lies in its ability to create a harmonious balance between preserving historical elements and introducing contemporary functionality, effectively transforming a five-decade-old structure into a modern workplace while maintaining its cultural significance.
