Rt Stool Or Sidetable

Rt Stool Or Sidetable

Rt Stool or Sidetable is a minimalist multifunctional furniture piece that exemplifies the intersection of traditional Chinese inspiration and contemporary design principles. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese tangram puzzle, this versatile piece consists of three precisely engineered components: two L-shaped aluminum plates of identical dimensions and a right-angled wooden block, all of which harmoniously integrate to create a stable and visually compelling structure. The design, conceived by Chinese designer Li Xiaokai, demonstrates remarkable attention to material properties and manufacturing precision, particularly in its innovative use of 6mm laser-cut and machine-bent aluminum plates combined with ash wood. Standing at 500mm in height with a 300mm x 300mm footprint, this piece offers dual functionality as both a stool and side table while maintaining a sculptural presence that creates varying visual perspectives from different angles. The design's strength lies in its careful consideration of material resistance and load-bearing capabilities, achieved through extensive experimental testing and reinforced with custom-designed screws. This innovative furniture piece, which received recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, represents a sophisticated exploration of form and function, where the linear interplay between metal and wood creates an eternal sculptural quality while maintaining practical utility. The design's user-friendly assembly system and efficient flat-pack potential make it particularly relevant in contemporary living spaces where versatility and aesthetic refinement are equally valued.
