The Withering Flower Printed TextileThe Withering Flower Printed TextileThe Withering Flower Printed Textile is an innovative textile design collection that explores the cultural symbolism and taboos associated with withering flowers in Oriental literature and traditions. Created by designer Angela Tsai Jung Chiang, this sophisticated textile artwork challenges conventional perceptions by presenting decaying flower motifs through an avant-garde printing technique on translucent mesh fabrics. The collection, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design category, consists of tulle dresses ranging from 100cm to 200cm in length, featuring specially developed silkscreen printing methods that achieve opaque, stretchy, and waterproof patterns on see-through materials. This groundbreaking textile technique creates an ethereal illusion of floating prints, effectively transforming when worn against the body to appear as artistic tattoos. The design draws profound inspiration from classical Chinese literature, particularly The Dream of the Red Chamber, examining how cultural perceptions shape aesthetic values and taboos. Through meticulous research and technical innovation, the project overcame significant production challenges to achieve the perfect print binder ratio, resulting in a unique textile that maintains flexibility and durability while preserving the visual integrity of the floral motifs. The collection not only pushes the boundaries of traditional textile printing but also serves as a philosophical exploration of cultural symbolism, challenging established notions of beauty and fortune in Oriental aesthetics.
