Naked Castle Visual Signage SystemNaked Castle Visual Signage SystemNaked Castle Visual Signage System is an innovative wayfinding and visual communication solution developed for a historic castle property in Moganshan, Deqing, completed in 2017 after extensive on-site research and development. This comprehensive signage system masterfully integrates Art Deco aesthetics with European medieval castle elements, featuring a sophisticated coat of arms and distinctive geometric patterns that adhere to golden ratio proportions. The system's design language emphasizes the harmonious fusion of raw and elegant architectural styles, incorporating British heraldic elements such as shields, streamers, and royal iconography. Crafted using sustainable and locally-sourced materials including forged iron, indigenous wood, and Wukang stone, the system demonstrates exceptional durability and environmental adaptation. The project's technical specifications encompass various components, including a substantial coat of arms measuring 1165x1640x100mm and street lamp wayfinding elements of 1420x3500x1420mm. The manufacturing process involved innovative techniques such as low melting point metal casting using hand-carved wooden molds, followed by meticulous hand polishing and historically-informed coloring. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project stands out for its thoughtful integration of local cultural elements, practical functionality, and aesthetic sophistication, effectively narrating the property's century-old history while providing clear directional guidance. The system's implementation required overcoming significant geographical challenges due to the castle's mountaintop location, resulting in a design solution that not only serves its practical purpose but also enhances the overall architectural narrative and visitor experience.
