Time Newborn HotelTime Newborn HotelTime Newborn Hotel is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the successful transformation of a historic building into a contemporary hospitality space, completed in 2019 in Nanjing, China. This 450-square-meter renovation project, designed by Peilei Huang and Jiaqiang Xu, masterfully addresses the challenges of working with load-bearing wall structures while creating a sophisticated and artistically enriched environment. The design philosophy centers on the dialectical relationship between old and new, employing bold colors and artistic decorations to breathe new life into the existing architecture. The hotel's distinctive entrance features an extended canopy ceiling that flows seamlessly into the interior, where large glass surfaces create a transparent exhibition gallery space. The reception area is characterized by striking black metal linear elements that provide strong visual definition, complemented by artistic hanging decorations and warm lighting. The designers have ingeniously utilized the limitations of the building's structural walls to create a progressive spatial experience, with the central core housing the reception desk connected to comfortable seating areas through strategically placed doorways. The material palette includes warm beige bricks that evoke temporal memory in the foyer, artfully combined with metal framing, sculptural elements, and designer lighting fixtures. The space planning demonstrates exceptional attention to circulation flow and functional zoning, while innovative solutions such as cleverly positioned skylights address practical challenges like natural illumination. This project, which earned an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, represents a significant achievement in urban architectural renewal, successfully merging contemporary design elements with historical architectural constraints to create a cohesive and engaging hospitality environment.
