Humble Space Office

Humble Space Office

Humble Space Office is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies modern wabi-sabi aesthetics through its minimalist approach and deconstructivist elements, completed in 2019 in Zhangzhou, China. This 125-square-meter office space, designed by De Weng and Jianfeng Liang, masterfully integrates natural light and architectural elements to create a harmonious work environment that balances functionality with aesthetic sophistication. The design philosophy draws inspiration from Buddhist principles, particularly the Three Dharma Seals, manifesting in a space that promotes tranquility and mindfulness while maintaining professional functionality. The project's distinctive features include its innovative treatment of the external façade, where original frames were preserved while incorporating floor-to-ceiling glass elements to maximize natural light penetration, significantly reducing dependency on artificial lighting and allowing occupants to experience the natural progression of day and night. The interior space is thoughtfully divided into public and private areas, with the former dedicated to visitor reception, knowledge exchange, and corporate meetings, while the latter provides personal workspaces and relaxation zones. A notable design element is the deliberately preserved acrobatic wall in the aisle, serving as a symbolic reminder of the designers' original passion and commitment to their craft. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases exceptional attention to detail in its material selection, spatial organization, and lighting design, creating an environment that seamlessly blends work and lifestyle elements while maintaining a sophisticated yet understated ambiance.
