N12 House ResidentialN12 House ResidentialN12 House Residential is an architecturally distinctive two-floor residential structure located in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, designed by architect Masahiko Sato as a sophisticated weekend retreat that harmoniously blends modern design principles with functional living spaces. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning architectural masterpiece, completed in 2019, exemplifies innovative spatial planning through its thoughtful integration of interior and exterior elements, featuring a circulatory terrace balcony on three sides that creates a seamless connection with the surrounding environment. The residence encompasses a total built area of 157.45 square meters, with the first floor occupying 83.73 square meters and the second floor spanning 73.72 square meters, all situated on a 556.05-square-meter plot. The structure employs the Wooden frame surface rigidity method, a departure from conventional Japanese wooden construction techniques, to ensure superior earthquake resistance while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Distinguished by its red cedar ceiling boards that extend seamlessly from interior spaces to the sloping eaves of the terrace balcony, the design creates an illusion of expanded space while incorporating indirect lighting to establish a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The second floor features a spacious living area with large windows on both sides, offering panoramic views and emphasizing the architect's commitment to creating an open, light-filled environment. A notable design element includes an integrated garage that showcases the owner's automobile collection, demonstrating how personal interests can be thoughtfully incorporated into residential architecture. The project's success lies in its ability to balance aesthetic sophistication with practical functionality, creating a tranquil oasis that serves as both a weekend retreat and an exemplar of contemporary Japanese residential architecture.
