Pearl River Howard Plaza HotelPearl River Howard Plaza HotelPearl River Howard Plaza Hotel is a distinguished interior design project that reimagines the traditional Cantonese restaurant experience through contemporary spatial design principles. Located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, this 495-square-meter establishment, designed by Cheung Chiu Hung and team, represents a significant departure from conventional Chinese restaurant aesthetics by eschewing typical dim atmospheres and excessive ornamentation in favor of elegant, comfort-oriented spaces. The design philosophy centers on human-centric principles, incorporating innovative spatial segmentation that accommodates various seating arrangements to serve diverse customer groups effectively. A notable feature is the installation of large glass panels that transform the formerly dim environment into a light-filled space, creating dynamic atmospheric transitions from day to night. The interior showcases sophisticated material selections, including marble elements and wood carving details that enhance spatial layering and quality. Chinese cultural elements are thoughtfully integrated through wallpapers featuring traditional motifs and carpeting inspired by ink painting techniques, creating an artistic atmosphere that balances heritage with modern comfort. The design includes a dedicated tea-savoring area, demonstrating careful consideration of varied customer preferences. This innovative approach to restaurant design, completed in 2019, earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its success in creating a space that harmoniously blends functional excellence with aesthetic refinement.
