The PolyCuboid Office BuildingThe PolyCuboid Office BuildingThe PolyCuboid Office Building is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Himeji City, Japan, completed in December 2019, that exemplifies contemporary workplace design through its distinctive composition of three interlacing cuboid forms. Designed by acclaimed architect Tetsuya Matsumoto, this 621-square-meter structure represents a remarkable fusion of form and function, where the metallic structural framework seamlessly dissolves into diverse geometric blocks, creating an impression of a sculptural object rather than a conventional building. The design's complexity was particularly challenged by site constraints, including a 700mm diameter underground water pipe that necessitated creative solutions in the form of cantilevered spaces in upper levels. The building's sophisticated spatial organization incorporates an atrium that connects multiple levels while maximizing natural light penetration throughout the interior spaces. The exterior features polished composite cement panel cladding, while the interior showcases a rich material palette including wallpaper, tiles, black oxide steel, and stainless steel finishes. The four-level structure houses a thoughtfully arranged program, with the ground floor accommodating reception areas and employee workspaces, the second level featuring executive offices and meeting facilities, and the upper levels incorporating wellness amenities including a gym, recreational areas, and dining spaces. This architectural achievement, which garnered the Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category in 2020, demonstrates exceptional innovation in workplace design through its dynamic spatial relationships, sophisticated material application, and careful consideration of user comfort and functionality. The building's design process involved extensive research into the interaction between imperfect cuboid forms and their impact on spatial syntax, resulting in a structure that successfully balances aesthetic appeal with practical workplace requirements.
