Ningbo Urban Construction Archives ArchivesNingbo Urban Construction Archives ArchivesNingbo Urban Construction Archives Archives is a significant architectural project located in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China, that serves as a cultural repository dedicated to preserving and documenting the city's urban development history. Completed in 2018, this innovative structure encompasses a total site area of 6,567 square meters, featuring 17,190 square meters of floor area above ground across 11 floors and 6,405 square meters underground across two floors. The design concept uniquely interprets the history of Ningbo through the metaphor of fortification, treating the city's developmental achievements as a collection of building blocks with distinct spatial and material attributes. The architecture employs a sophisticated categorization of blocks into three types: transparent, real, and special, each contributing to the building's distinctive aesthetic and functional character. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to archival architecture, effectively balancing cultural preservation with modern architectural principles. The design philosophy centers on the understanding that cities are composed of buildings, which in turn are constructed from various building blocks, creating a narrative of urban fortification history. The structure's design successfully addresses the challenge of representing concepts of fortification while serving its primary function as an important cultural carrier for collecting and preserving historical records. The project's architectural composition thoughtfully superimposes spatial and material properties to support its conceptual framework, creating a meaningful dialogue between form and function that reflects both the city's heritage and its forward-looking development.
