Saltatur FurnitureSaltatur FurnitureSaltatur Furniture is an innovative architectural furniture piece that exemplifies the convergence of structural engineering principles and aesthetic design, created through advanced computational methods and inspired by Antoni Gaudí's groundbreaking work in funicular forms. This long-span structure, measuring 308 cm in length, 195 cm in width, and 90 cm in height, represents a sophisticated exploration of three-dimensional force distribution, incorporating both compression and tension elements in a harmonious balance. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, draws its inspiration from the Greco-Roman wrestling technique Salto and derives its name from the Latin word for dancer. The structure features a unique prefabricated discrete spatial composite system, combining an ultra-thin 4mm glass top spanning three meters with a compression-only concrete body and post-tensioning steel rods. This innovative approach minimizes material usage and carbon footprint while maintaining structural integrity and performance. The furniture's development involved cutting-edge 3D Graphic Statics methodology, allowing precise control over horizontal forces and resulting in a self-contained system where concrete elements remain in compression through strategically placed tension ties. The design represents a significant advancement in furniture engineering, showcasing how complex structural principles can be applied to create functional, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing pieces that challenge conventional furniture design paradigms.
