The House For Contemporary Art ResidenceThe House For Contemporary Art ResidenceThe House for Contemporary Art Residence is an innovative architectural masterpiece that seamlessly integrates the functionality of a private residence with the aesthetic principles of an art museum, located in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. This remarkable structure, designed by architects Ryumei Fujiki and Yukiko Sato, exemplifies a sophisticated approach to contemporary residential architecture through its unique composition of white boxes of varying scales that frame spaces like artistic installations. The design, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional consideration for both environmental factors and artistic display requirements. The residence, encompassing a total floor area of 135.56 square meters, features a groundbreaking seamless spatial composition that allows occupants to experience the art collection as they would in a museum gallery. The structure's innovative response to environmental challenges is evident in its carefully engineered flat roof design, which efficiently manages heavy snowfall through wind action rather than manual removal. The architects implemented a traditional ventilation concept inspired by Kyoto townhouses, incorporating two strategically placed gardens - a south-facing garden for warmth and a north-facing garden for cooling - to create natural air circulation. The interior spaces were meticulously planned around the client's extensive art collection, with ceiling heights and wall dimensions specifically calculated to accommodate large-format paintings, including works measuring over 1.5 x 1 meter. The reinforced concrete construction provides a robust foundation for this sophisticated design, while the careful integration of display spaces for the owner's extensive jazz record collection further emphasizes the residence's dual role as both a living space and a personal gallery.
