Ska V29 Dining Table

Ska V29 Dining Table

Ska V29 Dining Table is an innovative furniture piece that exemplifies the intersection of environmental consciousness, artistic expression, and functional design. Created by Italian designer Ascanio Zocchi, this distinctive dining table serves as a poignant tribute to the devastating Vaia storm that struck the Dolomites in 2018, transforming natural destruction into purposeful beauty. The table's design features a solid natural larch wood top, meticulously crafted using numerical control machines and finished by hand, with its unique form deliberately echoing the positions of fallen trees in the aftermath of the storm. The table's surface undergoes a specialized hand-polishing process that creates an opaque, tactilely smooth finish while highlighting the wood's natural grain patterns and organic shapes. The base, constructed from powder-coated steel, symbolically represents the pine forest in its pre-storm state, creating a compelling narrative through its design elements. The table's dimensions follow the principles of the golden ratio, measuring 165mm in length, 100mm in width, and standing at a height of 75mm, with a substantial top thickness of 50mm. This Silver A' Design Award-winning piece demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship through its hidden joinery techniques and environmentally conscious production methods, utilizing PEFC-certified wood from the affected Dolomites region. The design's distinctive 30-degree angled edge symbolizes the storm's forceful impact, while the overlapping axes in the tabletop create a decorative weave that represents the chaotic arrangement of fallen trees. For each table produced, a new tree is planted, embodying a commitment to environmental restoration and sustainable design practices.
