Haikou West Coast Southern Park Visitor CenterHaikou West Coast Southern Park Visitor CenterHaikou West Coast Southern Park Visitor Center is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, designed to seamlessly integrate with its coastal environment while serving as a landmark gateway to the park. The structure, which earned the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, embodies a harmonious blend of indigenous spiritual heritage and contemporary architectural principles. Conceived in the form of an oval pebble, the building's distinctive silhouette pays homage to the natural coastal elements while creating a striking visual presence. The visitor center features a continuous white composite aluminium sheet roof that mirrors traditional local architectural elements while providing essential shelter from the tropical climate. Its sophisticated facade system incorporates tempered hollow glass curtain walls enhanced by undulating perforated aluminum sunshades, which not only echo the seaside aesthetic but also serve a practical purpose in energy conservation through reduced solar gain. The building's elliptical layout creates an organic flow of space, with an asymmetrically positioned inner courtyard establishing a dynamic interplay between solid and void elements. This transitional space serves as a shared zone between interior and exterior areas, facilitating natural movement patterns for visitors. The center's design philosophy emphasizes environmental harmony, utilizing advanced materials and construction techniques to achieve both aesthetic excellence and functional efficiency. The integration of spacious viewing areas through the glass curtain walls offers visitors panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, while the building's overall form contributes to the park's visual narrative as a contemporary interpretation of coastal architecture.
