Meet Fun CommercialMeet Fun CommercialMeet Fun Commercial is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the successful transformation of a historical space into a modern Italian-style restaurant, demonstrating exceptional innovation in spatial planning and material reuse. Created by designers Shih Ming Liu, Cheng Ham Lin, and Shih Ming Lo, this 330-square-meter establishment represents a harmonious blend of heritage preservation and contemporary design principles. The project, completed in March 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan, overcame significant architectural challenges including low ceiling heights and strict building management specifications to create a bright, open dining environment. The design philosophy centers on respecting the local environment while incorporating modern, concise techniques. A distinguishing feature of the project is its innovative approach to material selection, utilizing the client's collection of heritage materials to create unique spatial textures. The interior space is thoughtfully divided into distinct functional areas including a bar section, dining area, kitchen, and storage facilities. The designers employed a sophisticated palette of materials including concrete finish, fair-faced concrete, oak wood, repurposed tiles, and steel plates, complemented by wooden tables and leather seating. This project, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases exceptional expertise in overcoming spatial constraints while creating an atmosphere that successfully balances commercial functionality with aesthetic appeal. The design team's careful consideration of the surrounding streetscape and local cultural context demonstrates a comprehensive approach to urban integration, while their emphasis on resource reuse and environmental consciousness reflects contemporary sustainable design practices.
