The Atticum Restaurant Bar RooftopThe Atticum Restaurant Bar RooftopThe Atticum Restaurant Bar Rooftop is an innovative architectural and interior design project located in Tübach, St. Gallen, Switzerland, that transformed the top floor of an industrial building into a sophisticated dining establishment. This Silver A' Design Award-winning space, completed in 2019, masterfully integrates industrial heritage with contemporary hospitality design through its thoughtful 1,000-square-meter layout. The design philosophy centers on creating a harmonious contrast between industrial elements and warm, inviting features, exemplified by the custom-developed black and grey lime plaster that provides a distinctive textural continuity throughout the space. The restaurant's architectural narrative pays homage to the building's textile manufacturing history while introducing modern elements such as a show kitchen with guest-facing glazing, a central communal table illuminated by custom copper pan lighting, and strategically placed cozy seating alcoves. The space is organized around a black core housing essential services, with the lounge, main dining area, roof terrace, bar with fumoir, and children's playroom arranged along the window frontage to maximize natural light and views. Notable design elements include deliberately exposed raw steel with visible welding seams, muntin windows that reinforce the industrial aesthetic, and the sophisticated juxtaposition of these elements against warm oak wood and hand-planed herringbone parquet flooring. A fully planted wall behind wired glass serves as a biophilic element, softening the industrial atmosphere. The project exemplifies excellence in spatial planning, material innovation, and functional design, creating a versatile venue that serves as a community gathering space while maintaining operational efficiency for staff and optimal comfort for guests.
