Sierra Cantabria Wine FamilySierra Cantabria Wine FamilySierra Cantabria Wine Family is an exemplary packaging design project that represents a comprehensive redesign of wine labels for a historic Spanish winery, embodying 150 years of viticultural heritage through sophisticated visual communication. The design system, developed by Estudio Maba under the creative direction of Miguel Angel del Baño and strategic direction of Beatriz Suarez, encompasses an extensive collection of 53 distinct label combinations, each maintaining brand cohesion while expressing subtle individualities. The design architecture ingeniously incorporates traditional heraldic symbols with contemporary typographic hierarchies, creating an elegant visual language that spans across Bordeaux and Burgundy bottle formats. Utilizing premium cotton paper with sophisticated finishing techniques including high relief, stamping, and selective varnishing, the labels achieve a tactile dimension that complements their visual refinement. The project, completed between January and September 2019, demonstrates exceptional versatility in maintaining brand consistency while allowing for nuanced differentiation across the extensive product range. This sophisticated design approach earned recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, acknowledging its contribution to elevating packaging design standards through its harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. The design successfully addresses the complex challenge of creating a unified yet differentiated visual system that effectively communicates both tradition and premium positioning, while maintaining practical functionality across diverse wine varieties.
