Cecilia ArmchairCecilia ArmchairCecilia Armchair is an innovative sustainable furniture design that exemplifies the convergence of Scandinavian aesthetics with environmental consciousness, created by Brazilian designer Linda Martins. This distinguished piece, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2020, represents a thoughtful approach to sustainable luxury through its innovative use of reclaimed materials. The armchair's design philosophy centers on transforming potential waste materials into a sophisticated seating solution, featuring a structure crafted from pressed pieces of reclaimed wood, a distinctive backrest composed of artfully tied fabric remnants with foam padding, and a seat upholstered in repurposed leather. The chair's dimensions of 900mm width, 820mm depth, and 1120mm height are carefully calculated to create an ergonomic seating experience, while its intentionally lower profile and reclining structure invite relaxation and comfort. The design's most notable feature is its poetic backrest construction, where small fabric pieces are meticulously tied to a flexible base, creating both aesthetic volume and functional comfort. This innovative approach to material reuse demonstrates how sustainable design principles can be seamlessly integrated with contemporary furniture aesthetics. The piece draws inspiration from Scandinavian design traditions while incorporating sustainable solutions, representing a personal tribute to the designer's grandmother's appreciation for handcrafted work and nature. The armchair's development, which took place between November 2019 and January 2020 across São Paulo and Santa Catarina, showcases how contemporary furniture design can address environmental concerns while maintaining high standards of comfort and aesthetic appeal.
