Fish Migration ResidentialFish Migration ResidentialFish Migration Residential is an award-winning interior design project that masterfully transforms a 60-square-meter historic house in Taipei, Taiwan, drawing inspiration from the Chinese idiom like a fish in the water to create a harmonious living space that embodies tranquility and freedom of movement. Designed by Tsai Dung-Lin in 2019, this innovative residential renovation project seamlessly integrates modern living functions within an aged structure while preserving its historical essence. The design concept revolves around the mathematical symbol of infinity, manifesting as a continuous flow throughout the interior spaces that mirrors the natural movement of fish in water. The project's material palette combines black iron, concrete, and reclaimed wood to create dynamic interactions between airflow, natural light, and visual perspectives. At the entrance, the careful preservation of the original brick wall, juxtaposed with a contemporary circular mirror, represents the ancient Chinese concept of spherical heavens and flat earth. A notable feature is the interactive Pisces steel object, which can be reassembled by residents, emphasizing the design's theme of fluid movement and adaptability. The project, which won the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully overcame significant structural challenges while creating a space that reflects the residents' minimalist lifestyle and philosophical outlook. The design's emphasis on simplicity and silence, coupled with its innovative approach to space optimization and material selection, demonstrates exceptional creativity in residential interior design, setting new standards for the renovation of historical properties.
