A House In The Landscape Naturous ResidenceA House In The Landscape Naturous ResidenceA House in the Landscape Naturous Residence is an exemplary architectural project that masterfully integrates Korean traditional design principles with contemporary residential architecture, located in Pangyo-dong, Republic of Korea. This innovative residential structure, designed by Keun Young Shim and completed in 2018, embodies the profound concept of 'appropriative scenery sequence,' a traditional Korean architectural principle where natural scenery is framed through windows as living artwork. The residence, constructed on a challenging trapezoid-shaped site of 282.70 square meters, demonstrates exceptional spatial efficiency with a building area of 141.14 square meters spread across a basement and two floors. The structure's distinctive exterior features old white bricks sourced from dismantled Chinese buildings, offering a unique milky earth texture that adds historical depth and natural aesthetics to the facade. The design philosophy emphasizes harmony with the land through its careful consideration of form, material selection, and spatial arrangement. Notable architectural elements include large windows that transform interior spaces into courtyard-like environments, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The project, which won a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, showcases innovative solutions for contemporary living while maintaining strong connections to traditional Korean architectural values through its thoughtful integration of natural elements, sustainable materials, and cultural sensitivity. The residence's design incorporates sophisticated technical specifications, including advanced insulation systems and carefully selected finishing materials such as Western Red Cedar and zinc, contributing to both its aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency.
