Meduse Sculpture Lamp

Meduse Sculpture Lamp

Meduse Sculpture Lamp is an innovative fusion of ceramic art and illumination design that exemplifies the harmonious integration of Peruvian and Italian cultural aesthetics, created by architect and artist Ana Maria Reque. This sculptural lighting piece, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, represents a sophisticated interpretation of marine habitat through its distinctive form and craftsmanship. The lamp features a meticulously crafted ceramic base produced through the complex Raku firing process, where the piece undergoes thermal shock at 930 degrees Celsius to achieve unique crackle patterns and iridescent metallic reflections. The design is distinguished by its integration of handcrafted Murano glass tentacles, which complement the ceramic structure and create an ethereal interplay of light and shadow. Standing 48 centimeters in height with a diameter of 36 centimeters, this versatile piece functions as both an indoor and outdoor lighting fixture, equipped with a multicolored RGB LED system that allows users to modify the ambiance through various color combinations. The production process encompasses multiple sophisticated techniques, including a 20-day drying period, multiple firings, and precise thermal shock management, culminating in a piece that weighs 4 kilograms. The design not only serves as a functional lighting solution but also makes a powerful statement about environmental consciousness, particularly addressing the tropicalization of the Mediterranean Sea, while simultaneously celebrating the synthesis of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities.
