The spaces in Nandanam are arranged around a central courtyard through a common semi-covered space forming a continuous band of activities like an internal street. Design of built spaces attempts to move and blend with the movement of the child. The raised roofs and skylights are to evoke a spiritual connection to the sky while the large windows and easy access to outside create a connection to the Nature. Through its playfully interactive spaces, Nandanam attempts to provide a nurturing environment that becomes a playmate of the child.

Nandanam Kindergarten
Nandanam is a crèche plus kindergarten located in Centre Field for up to 60 children between 2 to 6 years of age. Nandanam, which means ‘garden' in Sanskrit, is Auroville's second kindergarten started in 2003. At Nandanam, the educators essentially and strongly feel that the children should have the freedom to explore the world within and around them and to grow at their own pace and in their own way, trying always to come in contact with their psychic being and being guided by it.
