The resort off the coast in Northern Norway is situated in an impressive natural scenery, which inspired the conceptual design of the cabins to provide a welcome shelter from the harsh climate, while the cantilevered glass structure gives a feeling of floating on the sea. A naked, but respectful, exposure to the natural elements on the outside. With time and weathering the wood will turn silver grey, like the natural colors of the landscape around. The cabins where carefully placed to provide individual privacy while leaving the existing landscape untouched.

Stinessen Arkitektur is a small practice located in Tromsø, Northern Norway that have distinguished themselves with award winning projects that are focused on unique designs to meet the requirements of the Client as well as answering to the surrounding landscape/cityscape and it´s inherent challenges and qualities. The studio works on all aspects of the design from the building itself to landscaping, interior design and furniture design - with a holistic approach to all projects. Current projects range from apartment buildings to hotels and resorts, villas, cabins, product design, office and alpine skiing resort.

Børge Ousland AS
Børge Ousland is a professional polar expedition explorer. He is a lecturer for National Geographic and also offers guided explorations in select locations: North Pole, South Pole, Svalbard and Patagonia. He has published several books of his expeditions. Manshausen Island Resort was created as a new enterprise for him as a unique hotel/resort to give visitors a comfortable experience of the nature and habitat of the Island positioned in a protected archipelago that hosts the world´s largest population of sea eagles, rich marine life, challenging nature and weather. It also has a focus on activities such as free diving, kayaking, snorkling, mountain trekking, off-piste skiing, caving, mountain climbing, cave diving etc. Or just relaxation, good food at the restaurant in the main building and a trip to the sauna, hot water tub and a swim in the cold water pond, where water is constantly circulated.
