Dorota Dyk, a mother-of-two invented Medapti, adapter for oral syringes, designed to make it easier to administer medicine to babies and children who refuse medication. The idea came to Dorota after she struggled to give medicine to her children when they were babies. She, like many other parents, had a number of concerns: if she squirted the medication outside of the mouth, she may give the incorrect dose; and if she shot the medication in too fast, her baby might choke. She went through many different types of medicine dispensers, and each one was as troublesome or ineffective as the last; either too messy or difficult to use, or not suitable for small babies that didn’t take dummies or bottles. Dorota knew there had to be a safer and easier way to get the medicine into her child’s system, so she created her own, in the form of an adapter for oral syringes. It will also reduce medicine wastage. Medapti concept gained interest in hospitals like Great Ormond Street, Alder Hey, Sheffield and Manchester Children's Hospitals. It also received a positive feedback from parents and has been featured widely in the British and international media. The vision is that Medapti will not only become a must-have baby care item but also a hospital tool, helping to administer medicine to babies, premature infants, disabled and elderly. The product has a granted UK patent, design registration and trademark and many others pending.
