Traditional Japanese houses do not create enclosed environments but instead, form spaces that enable easy transition from the inside to the outside. By forming a blurred boundary, only 40 percent of the space under the roof is entirely enclosed. While the inside is being used primarily by the inhabitants, it is the outside that defines it. Deep eaves, as Japanese traditional architecture elements in local monsoon climate, are almost extinct in modern houses. The house seeks to reinterpret the deep eave and create opportunities for Japanese qualities to flourish in modern architecture.

Tezuka Architects was started in Tokyo, 1994 by Takaharu and Yui Tezuka. Takaharu and Yui Tezuka, themselves, a married couple, infuses the office with a sense of informality and familiarity. Although a relatively small practice, it hosts a multi-national team of Japanese and overseas staff from various countries. Giving this company not only the tenacity and focus but also diverse backgrounds - that are required to tackle design commissions, both locally and internationally. Tezuka Architects fashion themselves as storytellers - developing design projects hand in hand with the Client to create stories meant to ignite life and possibilities.

Takaharu+Yui Tezuka has extensive experience designing spaces for children, such as Fuji Kindergarten, which was named the best school in the world by OECD(Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and UNESCO. They recently received Global Award for Sustainable Architecture from UNESCO. Takaharu's TED Talk recorded 7th in the world for the number of views in 2015. They also received domestic prizes such as Architectural Institution of Japan Prize, The Japan Institute of Architects Prize, Good Design Award Gold Prize, and children`s Environment Association Prize. Yui is involved in the establishment of kindergarten`s design code at National Institute of Educational Policy Research. While their activity is based on architectural design, they hold lectures all over the world, receiving offers from OECD. Their theory on children`s environment is published as the "Yellowbook" from Harvard University.
