It’s important for her to combine narrative illustrations and graal technique. She have studied glass art in Aalto University of Helsinki. In 2014 she participated Taos Art Glass Invitational 2014, an international glass art exhibition in New Mexico USA. She have also been awarded in China Fashion Week in Beijing. Her comic stories made of glass have been seen in Comic art festivals in Toronto and Helsinki.
STATEMENT OF ART:Glass is as a magical medium to work with. If you don’t break it, it lasts for thousands of years. When you are working with it, you cannot touch it with your hands. You shape it with your breath. My goal is to bring something fresh and contemporary into Scandinavian glass art. Many of my works are stories captured inside the glass. They can be seen as fairy tales or cartoons. So my design process usually begins with the creation of the storyline. For example I think about an interesting chain of events that could look cool on glass material. The logic of dreams and surrealism interest me. The storylines come together from bits and pieces that slowly evolve like songs or poems.
The technique that I’m using in my storyline works is called graal. Graal-technique is a hundred years old Swedish tradition that allows creating images inside the layers of glass. It takes several days to blow one piece and there are both hectic blowing days and calm cold working days in the process. The piece is made layer by layer like an onion.
My background is in theatre and fashion design. Glass became an important medium for me when I was studying glass design at Aalto University in Helsinki. In my works I’m pursuing the development of innovative glass production materials and blowing techniques. For example playing with Neodymium glass led me to invent a pattern that is visible only in natural light and disappears in artificial light.
