Designer InterviewInterview with Liqi Liu at Tuesday 24th of April 2012 FS: What kinds of works do you like designing most? LL: Logo Design, Brand Identity, and Packaging Design. FS: What is your favorite material / platform / technology? LL: Paper is my favorite material. Illustration and sketch are my favorite technologies. FS: When do you feel the most creative? LL: After wake up. FS: Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing? LL: Details. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when you design? LL: Calm. FS: What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized? LL: Relaxed. FS: What makes a design successful? LL: Patience & Passion. FS: When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first? LL: Aesthetics for needs. FS: How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design? LL: design will become a kill that everyone can use. FS: Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations? LL: Memory, dream, and life. FS: Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country? LL: As a cross-cultural Chinese designer who studies in the USA, my views of life, of value, and of the world has been shaped by the East and influenced by the West. I believe that art and design do not recognize national borders; they all create by people and serve to people; our most important responsibility is to contribute to our human civilization and nature environment, even though on the innovative and progressive way to the new era. FS: Can you talk a little about your design process? LL: Design Process: Research/Brainstorm --> Exploration/Sketch --> Development/Draft --> Completeness/Final FS: What is your "golden rule" in design? LL: I has always considered that subtle adjustment and smart implementation hided in the common and tiny details are always able to give people surprises, and invisible designs can always bring them profound impressions. FS: What skills are most important for a designer? LL: Dreaming. FS: Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.? LL: Pencil & Computer. FS: How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end? LL: It could be short, it also could be long. FS: What was your most important job experience? LL: I got my most important job experience when I was a freelance in China before I came to the USA.
