Designer of the Day InterviewInterview with Don Lin at Monday 27th of October 2025 FS: Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator? DL: As an interior designer, I see every space as a canvas where emotion, purpose, and beauty meet. Over the years, I’ve transformed countless residential, commercial, and hospitality interiors into living works of art that reflect both story and soul. My design philosophy is rooted in balance — between functionality and feeling, light and texture, tradition and innovation. Each project begins with a deep understanding of how people live and interact within their environment, allowing me to craft spaces that not only look stunning but also feel intuitively right. FS: How did you become a designer? DL: Design didn’t just happen to me — it’s something that’s always been part of who I am. From a young age, I was fascinated by how spaces could shape emotions — how a single light, texture, or line could transform the way people feel. That curiosity eventually became a calling. My journey began with a deep passion for storytelling through space. Every project I touched became an opportunity to translate imagination into reality — blending function, emotion, and aesthetics into one seamless experience. Over the years, I’ve learned that design isn’t just about making places look beautiful — it’s about creating meaning, purpose, and connection. FS: Which emotions do you feel when designing? DL: When I design, I feel curiosity first — the spark that pushes me to understand how people live, move, and connect. Then comes empathy, guiding me to craft spaces that reflect not only beauty but belonging. There’s excitement in every sketch, calm in every proportion, and a deep sense of fulfilment when a vision comes alive and someone says, “This feels like me.” For me, design is more than style — it’s storytelling through materials, rhythm, and soul. Each project is a journey from imagination to emotion, turning ordinary environments into meaningful experiences that last FS: What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer? DL: Passionate about shaping emotions through space, I believes that great design is not only about how a space looks, but how it makes people feel. My journey as a designer began from an early fascination with how light, texture, and proportion could transform ordinary rooms into meaningful experiences. Graduating with a background in interior and spatial design, I refined craft through years of hands-on work in residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. Each challenge—be it limited space, complex structure, or tight budget—became an opportunity to push boundaries and discover new ways to merge function with beauty. My multicultural exposure and sensitivity to human behaviour have deeply influenced his design philosophy which are often described as timeless, balanced, and emotionally resonant, blending modern sensibility with subtle cultural storytelling. FS: What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career? DL: Learn to Listen. Your client’s words are half the design brief. The other half comes from what they don’t say — their habits, emotions, and lifestyle. Be Fearless, but Patient. Every designer goes through doubt. Trust the process, embrace mistakes, and never stop refining your craft. FS: How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter? DL: Trends serve as a language of the moment, reflecting the spirit and technology of our time. They matter because they inspire innovation and fresh thinking. But I believe the best designs transcend trends — they tell a story that still feels relevant years later. For me, trends are references, not rules. True design should evolve with the client’s lifestyle and the space’s purpose, not just follow what’s popular FS: Who is your favourite designer? DL: Norman Foster & Rem Koolhaas FS: Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy? DL: Our team operates like a creative family — open-minded, passionate, and detail-driven. We value honesty, continuous learning, and respect for every craftsperson involved in the process. We believe success isn’t measured by how luxurious a space looks, but by how meaningfully it improves everyday life. Ultimately, my goal is to design spaces that leave a lasting emotional impact — spaces that people remember not just for how they looked, but for how they made them feel FS: Thank you for providing us with this opportunity to interview you.
