Editor Frank Scott (FS) from DesignPRWire has interviewed designer Ling Zhou (LZ) for A’ Design Award and Competition. You can access the full profile of Ling Zhou by clicking here.

Interview with Ling Zhou at Saturday 17th of March 2018

FS: Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
LZ: I graduated from the Chongqing Architecture University. I have designed it for 15 years. I used to work at the Chongqing Design Institute. The Chongqing newspaper group is also my client

FS: How did you become a designer?
LZ: To become a designer is my dream in the University era. So I chose the design major of Architecture University, and I worked in a design company after graduation to improve my design. My father's support is my decision to become a designer. The beauty of architecture and design makes me interested in art

FS: What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
LZ: First of all, I will set a scene to plan the layout of the space by the way of building, then to allocate the proportion of color and material. Each design must have a central theme. I usually use hand-painted drawings and computers

FS: Which emotions do you feel when designing?
LZ: The process of thinking in design is very wonderful. The initial idea and the adjustment in design process are very exciting. It is very exciting to see that your work is finished. Design, I think, is a happy process.

FS: What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
LZ: Music and gourmet, I think it's my catalyst to adjust my design mood

FS: What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
LZ: In the future, I hope to make a landmark design for my country and the city, and the design of the dream should be the design of the most primitive nature of the human being.

FS: What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
LZ: For the young designers, I hope they should strengthen their professional knowledge, and improve themselves step by step.

FS: You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
LZ: I want to see the essence of architecture quietly and think from the space structure, the material is beautiful but it will fade away, only the concept of space will remain forever.

FS: What is your day to day look like?
LZ: After a cup of coffee, I will start my morning work, read the design related news, and read the information on the boring workday.

FS: How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
LZ: I hope that my design is different from the current trend, and I always want to work hard to make a design that leads the trend.

FS: How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
LZ: I think designers should adapt to the design of any project. The good design is the combination of space and application, and I can think of innovative design in traditional thinking. I think it's a good design.

FS: How do you decide if your design is ready?
LZ: I think design should be a way of never giving up. If we haven't finished the project, we may make the design more perfect.

FS: What is your biggest design work?
LZ: Humanistic resort is a project I value much now. From space to vision, sense organ and olfaction, I need to make different and traditional design ideas. I think this is very challenging.

FS: Who is your favourite designer?
LZ: My favorite designers are Zhang Xianghao of Taiwan and Ando Tadao of Japan

FS: Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
LZ: I love the most is Chinese Chongqing, Chongqing. Let me have unlimited inspiration. I am now in Chongqing, and I am designing for some of our cities. I think the design can promote the development of a city.

FS: Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
LZ: I always face my work with a relaxed attitude, and I work with my partner. I think the good people with the same ideas and goals will be the partners I am looking for. An excellent designer, I think, should be the double charm of design and personality

FS: What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
LZ: I will go back to my university to share some design knowledge for my classmates, and I will be involved in some of the activities of the young designers. For designers I think we should do more to repay the society.

FS: What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
LZ: I am very happy to be able to participate in the contest of design awards, and of course I can be more happy to win the prize. I think the design competition is a standard for designers to measure their own design. I'm so happy to be able to answer these questions here today
