Interview with Paulus Kristanto at Saturday 17th of March 2018 FS: Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator? PK: Being a designer is an option. And also I choose to pursue what is my advantage. The 7-year experience in this industry helps a lot to be better than before. FS: How did you become a designer? PK: The journey of being a designer started when I was in college of Petra Christian University, Majoring Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Art And Design. There my skills and skills are sharpened and developed. Also, the experience is also a precious teacher. FS: What are your priorities, technique and style when designing? PK: First, and back to basic is sketch. I made the concept and design in a rough sketch form. Then apply it in digital. Of course, tool or device is helpful to make execution the design. And reference also serves as an insight into the design process. FS: Which emotions do you feel when designing? PK: Just be happy and relax. Sometimes I feel my adrenaline when the deadline is getting closer. But it's normal. FS: What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer? PK: The aspect which became my background to be a designer is because of passion and talent. Since childhood, I love drawing and painting. So I pursue what has become my talent since childhood. FS: What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project? PK: I plan to keep producing works that are qualified, fruitful and can be useful for others. And my dream is when my work is appreciated and may win an Oscar someday. FS: What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career? PK: Keep learning and stay humble. FS: You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects? PK: Keep practicing and learning. Add our insights and knowledge as a designer. Don't forget to be happy. FS: What is your day to day look like? PK: Every day I regularly exercise and love fitness in addition to my work as a designer. All must balance between work, sports, rest and our health. FS: How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter? PK: Knowing what the current trends are is essential in which we create a design or design that many people like right now. Reading reference from books, internet, friends, and others. Inspiration and trends can be from anywhere. FS: How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design? PK: What makes a project well designed is must include innovative, functional, useful, aesthetic, intuitive, honest, long-lasting, user-oriented, unobtrusive, and valuable business. FS: How do you decide if your design is ready? PK: I decided the design is ready is when a project is mature in concept and execution. Both are important. FS: What is your biggest design work? PK: For me, every project is the same portion. I am preparing everything to finish everything well. Whether it's a small or big project. FS: Who is your favourite designer? PK: Nothing favorite. But I like Andreas Preis, Amanda Mocci, and Mike Campau. FS: Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture? PK: I love music. Fitness is also my lifestyle. When I design, I like music that can improve my focus. So quiet music is my favorite when it works. I live in Indonesia and love Indonesia culture. Both food and life. FS: Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy? PK: My work culture is giving the best. I also like philosophy "Less Is more." FS: What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect? PK: Produce a design that can be useful to others. FS: What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award? PK: A Design Award helps me a lot known around the world. Got promotion and very positive so I can collaborate with some famous brands.
